Kitman Labs Score First Goal In MLS

Mon 21st Dec 2015 | IT & Technology

Kitman Labs, Silicon Valley’s leading sports science technology company, today announced a new partnership with Seattle Sounders FC, signalling the company’s entry into Major League Soccer.

The news comes at a time when technology and data are changing the way teams and leagues are thinking about preventing injuries, with Kitman Labs continuing to gain market share in the U.S.

The Kitman system will provide the team’s coaching staff and trainers with actionable alerts that can decrease injury risk and optimise athletic performance.

The Sounders are deploying a comprehensive player care strategy that maximises performance and player health with Kitman Labs’ technology at its heart.

“Using analytics to predict injuries has to come down to understanding the interactions of everything,” said Dave Tenney, Sports Science and Performance Manager at Seattle Sounders FC.

“There’s never one single metric that’s going to be predictive of an injury. Kitman Labs' biomechanical screening product Capture delivers accurate information within a simple use model that is truly unique.

“The ability to benchmark and measure our athletes’ asymmetry with frequency may give us the ability to accurately assess injury risk, and thereby increase opportunities to reduce injury occurrence.”

CEO and Founder of Kitman Labs, Stephen Smith, said: “Sports is big business, and injuries can have a significant impact on not just the box score but the bottom line.

“That’s why we’re so excited to be teaming up with the Sounders to enable them to leverage data-driven technology to improve player availability and increase overall team performance.”

With the addition of Seattle Sounders FC, the company now has agreements with teams in the NFL, MLB, the NBA and MLS.

Their roster also includes major professional rugby clubs in Europe, including the Irish national rugby team, and Everton FC and Norwich City FC in the Premier League.
