Giving the boot to sad football goal posts in Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex

Mon 1st Feb 2016 | Marketing & PR

The UK’s leading manufacturer of goals, posts and nets is on a mission to find and replace sad football goal posts across Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.

With the support of local communities, schools and football clubs within the regions, Harrod UK is launching the ‘saddest’ goal post campaign to discover these glum and potentially unsafe goal posts and replace the sad with the sublime.

In conjunction with the leading professional organisation for grounds management Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG), this initiative will result in these sad posts retiring with dignity and, in their place, Harrod UK donating a brand new set of goal posts which offer the highest level of safety.

Les Saunders, sales and marketing director for Harrod UK, says:

“I am extremely excited about launching the ‘saddest’ football goal post campaign as it’s a fantastic opportunity for local clubs and their fans to come together and potentially give their residential park, village green, school playing field or club a facelift with some brand new, ultra-safe and state of the art goal posts.”

Geoff Webb, CEO for IOG, adds:

“It’s of the utmost importance that every site checks that the goal posts meet the required European and British Standards and are safe. Raising awareness of safe goal posts is necessary as regrettably there have been accidents arising from goal posts that were unfit and unsafe for use. Any initiative that helps raise awareness and understanding of best practice is to be welcomed which is why the IOG supports this project.”

In recent years The Football Association (FA) has claimed there are too many serious injuries and fatalities occurring as a result of unsafe or incorrectly used goal posts, which is why this brand new campaign has been launched. In the future Harrod UK hopes to extend the initiative to other regions across the country.

Les continues:

“Safety is of paramount importance to us at Harrod UK so this initiative is the perfect way to ensure footballers of all ages and capabilities can play safely within their local community.”

The ‘saddest goal post’ campaign will officially launch on February 1st and will remain open for nominations until March 1st 2016.

For those wishing to nominate the saddest goal post in Norfolk, Suffolk or Essex please email pictures of the goal post(s) to Nominations@harrod.uk.com with a brief explanation as to why they are so glum and / or unsafe and their location.

Alternatively, please post pictures using the hashtag #sadgoalposts directly to Harrod UK’s Facebook or Twitter page accompanied with the location and reason(s) why you feel the goal posts need to be replaced.

In total this campaign will see Harrod UK donating one set of goal posts to six different locations (two per county) so there is plenty of opportunity for local clubs and communities to get involved.
