Premier League Secures Barclays Banking Partnership

Thu 17th Mar 2016 | Football Sponsorship

Barclays will become the Premier League’s first Official Banking Partner having been title sponsor of the League since 2001/02.

Last year Premier League clubs agreed a new sponsorship strategy which will see the League going title sponsor free from 2016/17 onwards. That decision has provided the Premier League with an opportunity to agree new category partnerships, of which the Official Banking Partnership with Barclays is one.

In a statement, Premier League Managing Director, Richard Masters, said: “We are very pleased that Barclays will become the League’s first Official Banking Partner from 2016/17.

“Barclays has been a fantastic title sponsor of the competition and this new partnership is a sign of the value they continue to see in being associated with the Premier League.

"The exciting football we are witnessing this season is providing an excellent platform for the League to take forward its new sponsorship strategy and we are working on a number of other category partnerships which will complement this new agreement with Barclays."

Nathan Homer, Barclays Global Head of Sponsorships, said: "We are delighted that we have secured a new deal with the Premier League. We are proud to have been the title sponsor of the Barclays Premier League for the last 15 years as it has grown to become a global phenomenon, supporting our businesses around the world, and helping build the Barclays brand.

"The Premier League is moving to a new model without a title sponsor yet we could still see the benefit of maintaining our association with one of the most successful sports brands in the world. The partnership will continue to offer us many assets such as tickets that are valued by our customers and clients, as well as helping maintain our long established commercial relationships with the Premier League and many clubs.

“We look forward to the successful continuation of our partnership with the Premier League.”

Barclays and the Premier League are currently working on an exciting campaign for the end of the season to celebrate Barclays' 15 years of title sponsorship of the League. Details will be announced in April 2016.
