Hampshire FA & Portsmouth Launch Respect Education Workshop

Wed 23rd Mar 2016 | Football Industry Events

Hampshire FA and Portsmouth Football Club will join forces once again to put on Respect Education Workshops following the success of last October’s ‘Respect Fixture’.

The next Respect Education Workshop will take place on Wednesday 4th May, 6:30-9pm at Portsmouth FC.

Both the county FA and the club are keen to spread the message of the Respect programme and to continue the legacy from the Respect fixture that took place in October.

Hampshire FA fully endorses and supports the FA Respect programme and as such has several local initiatives in place to provide education and guidance on best practice procedures.

The best practice procedures are sent to clubs and leagues; with their support this is then disseminated to players, officials, parents and spectators, ensuring all are fully aware of the programme and the positive impact it can have on the grassroots game.

As part of the county FA Plan and Raising Standards of behaviour in grassroots football, a Respect Education Workshop was produced and rolled out to clubs in September 2014.

This presentation includes education on respect, discipline, laws of the game, social media, equality and diversity. To date 35 Hampshire FA affiliated youth clubs have received this presentation and the feedback provided has indicated that the presentation was informative and educational.

The new initiative to roll this out for the purposes of the public and the community ensures that Hampshire FA in partnership with a professional club can further spread the message and awareness to those involved in and around the game.

The workshop is the second of a series of workshops with the club, ensuring there are plenty of opportunities for all to attend and be involved, finding out more about the FA’s programme and how individually we all contribute and play a part in the programme overall.

Head of Safeguarding & Inclusion at Portsmouth FC, Colin Farmery, discussing the joint partnership work with Hampshire FA, said: “The club is delighted to host this workshop.

“While raising the profile of the Respect  programme at events like the Yeovil game is important, the follow up and partnership work with Hampshire FA is of equal, if not more significance.

“I see this as an ongoing relationship, which can only help underpin the core message that anti-social, abusive or discriminatory behaviour in football at all levels will not be tolerated.”
