Court Proceedings Launched Against Former Rangers Executives

Mon 23rd May 2016 | Legal

Mike Ashley, the Sports Direct and Newcastle United owner, is among five former executives reportedly facing court proceedings after Rangers filed a civil case against the men.

It’s understood former Chief Executives Charles Green and Derek Llambias, Director Imran Ahmad, Financial Director Brian Stockbridge and Ashley have had proceedings brought at the Court of Session in Edinburgh.

Rangers, who were promoted back to the Scottish Premiership but lost out to Hibernian in the Scottish Cup Final at the weekend, have been in a long running dispute with Ashley.

Last week (Wednesday), the club served notice that it was withdrawing its rights for Rangers Retail of which Sports Direct owns 49%.

A statement read: “The Rangers Football Club Limited has today served notice on Rangers Retail Limited terminating the IP Licence and Rights Agreement with that company with immediate effect.

“The club now needs to speak to its commercial partners to agree the next steps flowing from the termination and will make no further comment on this matter whilst discussions are ongoing.

“The club will endeavour to communicate further with its supporters and customers for Rangers Kit and other Rangers products as soon as it is in a position to do so.”
