Wed 21st Sep 2016 | Football Industry Events

VSI – Masters in Sporting Directorship to sponsor CEO of the Year Award at the Football Business Awards.

fcbusiness magazine is excited to announce VSI & Manchester Metropolitan University - Masters in Sporting Directorship as sponsor of the Football CEO of the Year award at this year’s Football Business Awards, held at the Emirates Stadium on the 3rd November.

The Masters in Sporting Directorship is the first of its kind designed to develop all the personal and commercial attributes candidates need to become a successful Sporting Director.

For the first time, you can now gain a fully accredited Master’s degree that qualifies you for one of the most important roles in modern sport, the sporting director. The Masters of Sport Directorship (MSD) is a two-year part-time course that teaches a unique curriculum tailored to meet the real demands of leading sporting organisations.

Covering sports leadership, personal development, masterminding innovation and change, sport governance and best practice – alongside a diverse range of hands-on extra-curricular activities – the course provides unrivalled preparation for the role of the sporting director.

Designed to fit both on-campus and remote study around work commitments, the Masters of Sport Directorship equips sports and business professionals with all the skills and practical experience needed to take their next career step with confidence.

Now in its third year, the course has seen the likes of Aston Villa’s newly appointed technical director, Steve Round and Michael Appleton manager of Oxford United pass through the course with former England manager, Steve McClaren, as well as a host of other sporting greats such as Didi Hamann, Kevin Davies, Gary Bowyer and Karen Bardsley of Manchester City Women taking up study.

As well as sporting names the course is also giving practical knowledge to former Sheffield United Managing Director Mal Branighan, Sean O’Driscoll, Lee Darnbrough head of recruitment at Norwich, David Cross head of recruitment at Celtic FC, Tony Strudwick head of performance at Manchester United as well as representation from Cricket, Rugby Union, Rugby League, formula 1 and corporate business world.

Speaking of his time on the course, Steve Round, Aston Villa Technical Director, said: “I’ve really benefitted from working with individuals from other sports during this time at the University.

“The likes of Ashley Giles, Gareth Mordey, who is COO at Esports, Dubai and commutes to study on the course and Tony Ashgar who is CEO of Revolution Global Sports have really given me an insight into a different world.”

The Football CEO of the Year Award is one of the most prestigious awards at the annual Football Business Awards. Previous winners have included the likes of West Ham’s Karren Brady, Sam Rush of Derby County and Huw Jenkins of Swansea City as well as the likes of Ivan Gazidis, Russ Green and Peter Lawwell.
