Intermediaries Involved In Two Thirds of English Transfers

Thu 24th Nov 2016 | FIFA

From 2013 to date, English clubs had the most transfers involving engaging club intermediaries - 905, representing 37.7% of all incoming transfers to England.

The report compiled by FIFA Transfer Matching System (FIFA TMS) offers an extensive overview on the involvement of intermediaries in all international transfers completed since 1 January 2013.

Considering only transfers with fees, the percentage of 67.0% suggests when engaging a player for a fee, English clubs used intermediaries in two out of three transfers.
The report also shows since 2013, 19.7% of all international transfers worldwide involved at least one intermediary, and USD $1.1bn were paid as commissions to club intermediaries.

Focusing exclusively on transfers that involved a transfer fee, the percentage is as high as 47.9%.

Intermediaries representing players are the most common (8,018 transfers since 2013), followed by intermediaries representing engaging clubs (3,655) and those representing releasing clubs (836).

In the context of international transfers, 98.1% of spending on intermediary commissions has come from clubs affiliated to associations that are members of UEFA, with England and Italy accounting for 58.0% of it.
