Edwin Van Der Sar To Share Club Brand Values At Soccerex

Thu 9th Mar 2017 | Football Industry Events

Former Ajax, Manchester United, and Dutch national goalkeeper, Edwin Van Der Sar will be speaking at the Soccerex Global Convention, 4-6 September, Manchester.

Van Der Sar will be part of a panel of senior club figures discussing the importance of having defined values within a football club; how they can create and support the club's identity and what structures are needed to ensure these are maintained.

Currently Chief Executive Officer of his beloved Ajax, Edwin enjoyed a glittering career spanning 21 years, winning titles at a number of clubs including Juventus, Ajax and Manchester United. Earning a record 130 caps for his country, Van Der Sar is widely recognised as one of the greatest goalkeeper of his generation.

After calling time on his playing career, Van Der Sar did a masters degree in sports and brand management at the Johan Cruyff Institute before joining Ajax in November 2012 as Marketing Director.

The Dutchman has been part of the team that has changed the sponsorship model at Ajax and increased brand activity around the world, moving into new markets such as Asia. Now Chief Executive Officer of the club, Van Der Sar is part of a cadre of former players including Dennis Bergkamp and Marc Overmars who have taken roles at the club since hanging up their boots.

At the Global Convention, Edwin's experience both on and off the pitch will enable him to bring valuable insight to our delegates.

Much of his role during the time he has spent at Ajax in recent years has been based around the clubs brand, extolling the famous Ajax philosophy around the globe. Ajax has always been synonymous with technical quality and developing young talent, and Edwin will be discussing how these values are applied across all aspects of the club, helping to grow the brand both domestically and internationally.

Van Der Sar will be contributing to a thought provoking conference programme at the Soccerex Global Convention, designed to deliver unique business insight across a variety of football's key sectors from stadia design, sponsorship, international investment, the latest in wearable technology and the rise of influencer marketing.
