Sir Alex Ferguson Returns To Back National Football Programme

Tue 16th May 2017 | Football Industry Events

Sir Alex Ferguson is to return to Scotland as the VIP guest at a major fundraising event to support and inspire socially disadvantaged adults and young people across Scotland.

The football legend will be guest of honour at the first Street Soccer Scotland Annual Dinner on the 17th of August at the Hilton Glasgow where he will take the stage with sports TV presenter Hazel Irvine in what promises to be a fascinating review of his contribution to football and his thoughts on being a leader of success.

The inaugural event, hosted by the award winning social enterprise Street Soccer Scotland, is expected to attract leaders from sport, business and politics to hear from one of Scotland's most inspirational leaders of modern times.

Street Soccer Scotland delivers a range of football related personal development and training programmes to socially disadvantaged adults and young people (including homelessness) across Scotland including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen.

Sir Alex said: "I've had the privilege of experiencing football at its highest level but I know only too well what a positive impact it can have at every level. The benefits to the physical and mental health of those playing cannot be understated and the work Street Soccer Scotland does every day across the country plays a big part and must be encouraged and supported.

“I am delighted to be supporting Street Soccer Scotland once again and I look forward to returning to Glasgow for what will be a fantastic and inspiring event."

David Duke, Founder and Chief Executive of Street Soccer Scotland said: "I grew up in Govan and Sir Alex has been a constant inspiration. Having him as our guest of honour is the stuff dreams are made of and I know there will be a lot of people, from business and sport, who want to attend this special event to hear from one of the greatest football managers ever.

“Scotland has attracted some huge A-List names to events in recent years but for football fans Sir Alex has to be up there with the very biggest.

"Every day we use football as a tool to support thousands of socially disadvantaged adults and young people who are experiencing difficult times, offering hope, purpose and inspiration.

“The backing of Sir Alex inspires everyone involved with Street Soccer Scotland and this event will help us set a legacy for the programme for many years to come."
