Manchester Top Destination For Visiting Fans

Wed 14th Jun 2017 | Football Stadiums & Facilities

Amongst the UK’s footballing hotbeds, the city of Manchester reigns supreme, with 32% of supporters most excited to visit the respective homes of Manchester United and Manchester City.

According to a survey of football fans carried out by Thomas Cook Sport, Manchester was the place most fans were keen to visit beating the nation’s capital, London and a visit to the city of Liverpool.

Despite the history and allure of Stamford Bridge, nobody wants to travel there early in the season, with 42% of fans claiming that would be the toughest, and least desirable start to their Premier League campaign facing the Champions early in the season.

Three sides join the Premier League this season, including a return to top-flight football for Newcastle United.

The Geordies should expect a strong travelling contingent to join them at St James Park, with the city ranking top amongst the three newly promoted teams as fans look forward to the impressive, traditional stadium and the city’s famed culture and nightlife.

From the Manchester and Merseyside derbies through to some of English football’s most iconic stadiums including Wembley and St James’ Park, the release of next season’s fixtures sees supporters already busy circling their calendars, planning their trips and making some hasty and bold predictions about the state of the Premier League table come May.

Rob Slawson, Head of Thomas Cook Sport said: “We’re really excited for the new Premier League season to start.

“The anticipation starts building as soon as the fixtures are announced and we’re delighted to give fans their first official access to tickets.

“Our partnerships with some of the biggest football clubs in the world gives us a fantastic opportunity to offer once-in-a-lifetime match-day experiences in some incredible cities.”
