Ebbsfleet Utd Chairman calls on fans to back the club

The newly-appointed Ebbsfleet chairman has called on fans to back an internet-based experiment where supporters run the club themselves.

Speaking to the Gravesend Reporter, chairman Phil Sonsara who over at the start of summer  confessed he is not expecting promotion and is unsure Ebbsfleet can ever compete in the non-league top-flight under the current regime.

He said: “This season is about consolidating. If we happen to be at the top come next May I’ll be over the moon but the priority is making sure the club continues to exist.

“Is this our level under MYFC? — I don’t know,” he admitted. “What I can say is that at this time, even if only 2,000 fans sign-up again and pay their £50 that is £100,000 added to our budget we would otherwise not have. For a club with a turnover of just under £600,000 that not something to be sniffed at.”

A life-long Tottenham Hotspurs fan Mr Sonsara was one of the first to sign-up to the revolutionary MyFC project, but unlike the majority of the original 50,000 members, rather than slink away as times got tough, he has found himself at the helm of the club.
