Manchester City has launched SkillCity, presented by Nexen, a new interactive app that will help develop the talents of young players across the US.

The City squad is currently in the United States for its pre-season tour, visiting Houston, Los Angeles and Nashville.

SkillCity will see young American players compete across a series of challenges that have been exclusively developed by the Club’s City Football Schools coaches.

The four challenges will allow boys and girls between the age of five and 14-years-old to test their speed of movement, ball mastery, finishing and passing – ranking themselves against their friends and Manchester City players.

Kevin De Bruyne and former Manchester City Women’s player, and Tour Ambassador, Carli Lloyd have already tested the app and users can watch these videos to help develop their skills.

Users will then film their entries and submit them through the app, with finalists getting the chance to compete at the National Final in California this October.

The winner of the challenge, which is only open to US residents, will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Manchester to watch a City match at the Etihad Stadium.

The innovative app uses the latest technology to provide users with an immersive experience, through their own personalised avatar.

Belgian midfield star De Bruyne said: “The players loved trying out the SkillCity challenge! It’s a brilliant soccer app and young players will love getting the chance to test themselves against their friends and see how they do against the City players too.

“The challenges are a great way to learn new soccer skills that will help kids in the United States become better players. Good luck to everyone taking part – can’t wait to see how you get on!”

Nuria Tarre, Chief Marketing Officer for City Football Group, said: “Manchester City is delighted to launch SkillCity, presented by Nexen, an interactive new app that we are excited to launch exclusively to young soccer fans in the United States.

“The app will give users a truly authentic Manchester City experience that allows players to learn more about the game they love in an exciting, digital format.

“The City team is enjoying being in the United States and we’re excited to launch this soccer challenge here, and can’t wait to welcome the winner to Manchester.”

SkillCity is available to download for free from the Apple Store and the Play Store.
