Mitre Group, the UK’s leading sports & stadia training specialists, has announced a management buyout led by Jennie Bowmer and backed by the new owners, former Clinigen Group plc CEO and CFO, Peter George and Robin Sibson.

The new ownership will help support and strengthen Mitre as it continues to grow and develop.

Having formed Mitre over 24 years ago, Trevor Bowmer has taken a well-earned retirement. The ownership has now passed to the management buyout team led by Jennie Bowmer and supported by the new owners.

Until recently, Peter and Robin, Mitre’s new Chairman and Director respectively, were CEO and CFO of the hugely successful Staffordshire-based Clinigen Group plc global pharmaceutical business.

They led the £164m Clinigen flotation on the AIM market in 2012 and have driven the growth of the business to its current valuation. They are now leading investors and directors in the not-for-profit Mount Cook Adventure Centre – the Derbyshire Times ‘New Business of 2016’ and investors in the UK Challenge – the country’s leading outdoor corporate team building event.

Peter George, Chairman comments: “I am delighted to be part of Mitre and what is an outstanding team, we share a common set of values and are committed to improving the life chances of more people through training and creation of opportunity.

“Both Robin and I believe our experience coupled with the potential at Mitre can combine to achieve its growth ambitions and fulfill its potential.  We are committed to supporting Mitre to build on its success and implement current growth strategies, and look forward to an exciting future for the business.”

Jennie Bowmer, Managing Director, Comments “We are delighted to have Robin and Peter on board.  They have an exceptional track record that will support our exciting plans for growth and help realise our ambitions.”

Trevor Bowmer commented: “To pass the ownership and leadership ‘baton’ to people who I have known and respected for several years, whose commercial successes are well documented and who so visibly share the ethics, aims and ambitions of Mitre presents a remarkable opportunity for all in the business. I wish them every possible success.”
