Leading lights of Player Care recognised at the Behind the Scenes Awards

Three individuals who go above and beyond in their off the-pitch support of professional athletes will be acknowledged for the first time this year by the Premier Sports Network at its Player Care Manchester event.

The invite-only Player Care Manchester event is held for the community of leading sports executives who work in a variety of positions that ensure professional athletes are cared for off-the-pitch – to meet and discuss best practice.

The Behind the Scenes Awards cover three categories: Outstanding Services to Youth Development, Outstanding Services to Player Support and Outstanding Services to Education. Nominations are open now, and the winners will be awarded during the event at the Radisson Blu Edwardian Manchester hotel on May 3.

Outstanding Services to Youth Development will recognise the contribution of academy staff whose commitment has helped promote the chances of a number of young athletes looking to break into the big time.

Outstanding Services to Player Support will recognise player liaison and player welfare staff that have become an irreplaceable link between athletes and staff at a major professional sports team.

Outstanding Services to Education will recognise the work of education staff that play a major role in keeping professional athletes safe and on the straight-and-narrow.

“Our Player Care events are now established in the sports industry calendar, and with every year that passes we feel a greater commitment to foster best practice within the player support community,” said David Bull, Premier Sports Network Executive Director.

“The Behind the Scenes Awards will therefore be something for our community to strive for, and in the process we hope the overall area of Player Care gets more attention and resource to professionalise further.”

You can nominate yourself or a colleague for Behind the Scenes Awards by filling in a nomination form on the Premier Sports Network website found under the May Player Care events page which also gives details of the nomination deadline and the voting process.
