Wolves Head Groundsman Brushes Up On Mark Harrod Advances

Goals manufacturer Mark Harrod Ltd can boast to have run the cleanest stand at Saltex 2019. So clean in fact that visitors had to brush their feet before stepping on to the hallowed surface.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Head Groundsman Wayne Lumbard, had a bit of fun with the DevoClean twin-station boot cleaner, which was launched at the show.

“We have just bought them for the Sir Jack Hayward academy hub and training base,” explained Wayne. “What I like about the product is that the brush heads are inclined rather than horizontally positioned, to give the correct angle for cleaning mud and dirt off studs and cleats.

“The brush angle also prevents players standing on, and crushing, the bristles, so extending lifetime.”

Not only did Mark Harrod Ltd have the cleanest stand but arguably the safest, when considering goalpost design. Also debuting at Saltex was the DevoShift goal, designed to be BSEN 16579 compliant and made to prevent finger pinchpoints and entrapments.

Developed specifically for high quality and synthetic pitches, the DevoShift can be conveniently moved through pitch perimeter gates by just one operative, rather than the two or three usually needed with traditional goalposts.

After trialling for eight months at Wolves’ training base, the Premier League club has invested in the advance to become the first in the League to specify DevoShift goals – “a godsend” as Wayne dubs them.
