Xavi Hernandez and Nasser Al Khater to discuss sport and legacy in Qatar at Soccerex Asian Forum. 

 

Legendary former Barcelona and Spain midfielder Xavi Hernandez and Nasser Al Khater, the Assistant Secretary General for Tournament Affairs for the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy are the latest names confirmed for the Soccerex Asian Forum, taking place in Doha, Qatar, 5-6 December.

 

Al Khater will be talking about preparations for the 2022 FIFA World CupTM in Qatar and Xavi will be discussing, how the tournament – and football in general – has the power to change and enhance lives across the Middle East.

 

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) was established by the State of Qatar in 2011 to deliver the required infrastructure and host country planning and operations for Qatar to host an amazing and historic FIFA World Cup(tm) which accelerates progress towards achieving national development goals and creates a lasting legacy for Qatar, the Middle East, Asia and the world.

 

Al Khater’s role as Assistant Secretary General  for Tournament Affairs is to make sure the operational procedure’s of the 2022 FIFA World Cup(tm) are run efficiently and that everything is put in place to create a high quality standard for all departments of the  tournament.

 

In the session titled ‘Delivering Amazing – Qatar, 2022 and Beyond’, Al Khater will be explaining what  programmes have been implemented, the challenges faced and the progress made within the country since it was awarded the 2022 FIFA World Cup(tm)six years ago and also the future plans after the tournament. 

 

His updates on the progress of the planning up to the 2022 FIFA World Cup(tm) will provide a timely insight into what needs to be done to make sure a legacy in Qatar and the region will be created from the mega sporting event.

 

The Forum will also feature an exclusive interview with Xavi Hernandez, currently playing for Qatar Stars League team Al Sadd Sports Club, which will see the player sharing his experiences in Qatar and his work with the Supreme Committee’s “Generation Amazing” programme.

 

The programme sees him work in Qatar and the Middle East with schoolchildren, refugees and workers to use the power of football to make change within communities.  The former Barcelona and Spain star will also be looking at the highlights of his world renowned career and the future of the game.

 

Coming through the Barcelona academy, Xavi’s career has spanned over two decades and is regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time. His achievements in football include wining the FIFA World Cup with Spain in 2010 and the UEFA European Championship’s twice in 2008 and 2012.

 

The player also won LaLiga with Barcelona eight times and also the UEFA Champions League on four occasions, with the final time being the 2014-15 season, where he was the club captain.

 

He is the record holder for the most appearances in Barcelona’s history, and finished his time at the club on 767 appearances before moving to Al Sadd.  His career for the Spanish national team before his retirement for his country in 2014 saw him capped 133 times and has been seen as an integral player in the team’s success.
