Aston Villa Foundation Gets Renewed Cazoo Support Pledge

Cazoo, Aston Villa’s shirt sponsor and principal partner, has today announced that it will donate £1,000 to The Aston Villa Foundation, the Club’s official charity, for every goal scored by the first team in the Premier League this season and £1,000 for every goal scored by the women’s team in the FA Women’s Super League.

The ‘Golden Goals’ got off to a flying start last season with a total of £57,000 being raised. And this season Cazoo has doubled its pledge to donate £1,000 per Premier League goal for the men’s team and £1,000 per goal for the Aston Villa women’s team. The Aston Villa Foundation has already benefited from a £5,000 ‘Golden Goals’ donation from Cazoo this season, which will help to continue to deliver its mission of ‘Working Together to Enrich Lives’. With the women’s team donations this season going towards an initiative called Changemakers, aimed to inspire and empower girls aged 11-17 and develop their leadership skills, in and away from sport.

Cazoo, the UK’s leading online car retailer, which makes buying or selling a car as seamless as ordering any other product online today, was announced as the Club’s new main partner at the end of the 2019/20 season and immediately started speaking to the Aston Villa Foundation after hearing about its impact and work across Birmingham and will now become an official partner of the Club’s charitable arm.

The Foundation works with a range of partners for the benefit of people from a variety of backgrounds in Birmingham and the wider community. The Foundation team runs around 250 sessions over seven days a week and thousands of people benefit from its projects which help get people more active, live healthy lifestyles, encourage education, training and skills, and contribute to safer, stronger communities.

Alex Chesterman OBE, Founder & CEO of Cazoo said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Aston Villa Foundation, a great charity that delivers essential projects and provides opportunities to people in the local communities around Birmingham. It’s going to be an exciting season and we look forward to the goals from both the men’s and women’s team that will continue to help The Foundation with their incredible work in and around the community.”

Anita Asante, of Aston Villa Women, added: “I am delighted that our sponsor, Cazoo have extended their ‘Golden Goals’ initiative to our women’s team for the 2021/22 season. Cazoo donating £1,000 for every goal scored to the Foundation is a fantastic way for us to support a great cause. This opportunity will not only add greater motivation to our team, but we hope it will inspire and provide further opportunities to young girls across our community.’’

Guy Rippon, Head of the Aston Villa Foundation, said: “We are delighted to be working alongside Cazoo through the Golden Goals programme during the 2021-22 season. Last season, Cazoo’s generosity saw £57,000 donated to The Foundation to support a number of our projects.

“This season we’ll be focusing on a smaller number of projects to have a greater impact with a focus on employment and business entrepreneurship for local young people, activities to help reduce social isolation, and promoting ‘giving back’ and social action amongst the Villa Family. Cazoo have also included the Aston Villa Women’s team for this season, and we are really excited about growing our young females leadership and empowerment programme ‘Changemakers’ through the Golden Goals initiative.

“We can’t thank Cazoo enough for their investment into our social responsibility work and look forward to another hugely successful and exciting season.”

The Aston Villa Foundation delivers the community and social responsibility work of Aston Villa Football Club and the partnership with Cazoo will also see both organisations work on a series of Corporate Social Responsibility and employee engagement initiatives.
