Bissell & Foster Witness EitC’s Pioneering Work In L4

Ahead of Everton Women’s last-ever Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, first-team stars Emma Bissell and Rylee Foster were given an insight into how Everton in the Community’s work in the area will continue after the lights have gone out at The Grand Old Lady.

Funded by the Premier League and Professional Footballers’ Association, the Blues duo met a group of female participants aged 10 to 19 from the charity’s Interventions project which supports young people who are absent from education or at risk of exclusion to make significant and long-lasting life changes. 

Delivered just a stone’s throw away from Goodison Park on 41 Goodison Road, Bissell and Foster joined the young girls at the community venue to take part in a series of workshops hosted by Period Reality, a global movement that aims to educate people about their menstrual cycles.  

During the session, the players also engaged in an open forum discussion, where they had the opportunity to share their own personal experiences of living with their menstrual cycles as elite athletes.  

Everton in the Community is reaffirming its commitment to the area surrounding Goodison Park with a campaign highlighting the charity’s present and future provision in Liverpool 4. ‘Forever’ is enforcing the charity’s current presence in L4 whilst highlighting Everton Football Club’s commitment to the area through the life-saving work of its official charity.    

Reflecting on her visit, Toffees midfielder, Bissell said: “It’s really nice to take part in activities like this, meet the girls and share our experiences with them. Visiting a community facility next to Goodison was really interesting. On Sunday we’ve got a big game, so it was lovely to be here today engaging with the community.” 

Bradley Moore, Senior Youth Interventions Coordinator at Everton in the Community, added: “41 Goodison Road is where our Interventions project is housed, and it provides a unique homelike environment for our participants. We want to keep our foothold within L4, and it’s been great to welcome the players along today to see the impact that we’re having in the area.” 

41 Interventions is one of over 60+ programmes and initiatives delivered by Everton in the Community which support tens of thousands of individuals from across the Liverpool City Region each year.
