The EFL Board has announced it will undertake a thorough review of all EFL governance structures as it looks to ensure the appropriate constitutional and decision-making processes are in place for the long-term sustainability for all of the League, its 72 Clubs and its competitions.
The Board met on Thursday to start developing a strategic framework which will look specifically at how its members are represented, how decisions are made and how rules are created and upheld across the League.
This framework will then be used to consult and engage all Clubs and the League’s key stakeholders with a view to amending and, where necessary, updating the constitution.
The Board will also begin the search for a new CEO after Shaun Harvey announced his decision to stand down at the end of the season. A nominations committee will be convened, consisting of board representatives of all EFL divisions led by Interim Chair Debbie Jevans. As part of this process the Board will engage fully with member Clubs.
EFL Interim Chair Debbie Jevans, said: “We have today looked closely at what the League needs to focus on to address the well-documented challenges of the recent past and move forward so that the League can continue to thrive and prosper as a collective of 72 Clubs.
“A robust constitution that effectively, fairly and clearly governs the League, its Clubs and its decisions sits at the centre of this objective.
“There are many positives to draw from the successes we have achieved in recent years and by undertaking a review of our structures and processes, it will allow us to determine how we can best service our membership in all divisions.
“Effective communication is at the heart of that approach and this Board is committed to ensuring that its actions remain open and transparent.
“A detailed brief is being agreed for the CEO position and we are targeting an appointment as soon as practicably possible. Once we have appointed a CEO I will lead the search for a permanent Chair after which I will resume my role as Senior Independent Director.”
