Creative Studio PLAY Scores A Stunning Hat-Trick Of Awards
Play is a studio that creates branding and design for organisations within the football sphere and this summer the team are celebrating a hat-trick of award recognition across two of their trailblazing projects.
Four Clubs One Goal, is a campaign that harnesses the wide influence of football to positively impact communities.
The initiative was launched in early 2022 to reduce crime in Merseyside, aiming to destigmatise reporting crime and generate increased engagement with the charity Crimestoppers.
Garnering support from Everton FC, Liverpool FC, Marine AFC, and Tranmere Rovers FC, the unlikely union of these four Merseyside clubs promised to elevate the messaging and offered a uniquely broad stretch of influence.
The four clubs are at the heart of their communities, and through the work of their foundations, countless lives are changed, young people are supported and thousands across Merseyside benefit.
By joining together, this on-going campaign is using the power and reach of football to change communities and help stop exploitation, abuse and violence.
Play channelled this unification into a strong brand identity, kit design and visual campaign that appealed to the diverse audience it was targeting.
With online engagement up 36%, as well as a 28% increase in crime reporting in the local area, the stats confirm the success of this meaningful and important campaign.

Merseyside Police Commissioner Emily Spurrell, said: “Football is at the heart of our communities here in Merseyside, so it is brilliant that our four fantastic clubs have come together with one shared goal – to reduce crime in our region.”
The project also received the Chairman’s Award for SME at the Marketing Society Star Awards in Edinburgh and a bronze award at the Football Business Awards in London, in the Best Football Community Scheme category – beating off fierce competition from some of the largest clubs in the country.
Creative Director of Play, Niall Smillie, added: “It’s a huge honour to have been awarded this recognition, and we are delighted to have played a part in a campaign that’s generating tangible positive change among communities. Football means a lot to us and to so many people, it’s fantastic to see it functioning as a force for good.”
Play’s recent passion project Play – Edition 1, has gained similar acclaim, receiving a prestigious Scottish Design Award in the print design category. Featuring innovative design and eleven bespoke typefaces, the publication is an amalgam and celebration of the creative scope of football.
The piece showcases Play’s creative accomplishments and celebrates diversity, telling powerful stories that have not just shaped the footballing world, but wider society, culture and lifestyle.
Striving to amplify positive voices and generate commercial success for brands and campaigns within the industry is at the heart of Play’s mission, so if you’re seeking a pitch-perfect design and a creative leap forward for your football-based organisation, get in touch with the team @ studio-play.com/contact
