DFL Secures Long-Term Leadership With Contract Extensions For Naubert And Zuber
The DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga has announced the extension of contracts for two of its key executives, ensuring continuity in its leadership team until at least 2028.
Peer Naubert will continue as Managing Director of Bundesliga International GmbH, a role he has held since joining the DFL Group in 2018. Naubert oversees international marketing efforts, including the distribution of audiovisual media rights for Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 matches, as well as global sponsorship and licensing partnerships. Prior to his tenure at DFL, the 44-year-old served as Senior Vice President Market Development at SPORTFIVE (formerly Lagardère Sports), focusing on internationalisation and growth strategies for rights holders.
Steffen Merkel, DFL CEO and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Bundesliga International, praised Naubert’s contributions: “Despite the challenges of a difficult market, Peer Naubert and his team have been able to compensate remarkably quickly for the coronavirus-related declines in our international marketing in recent seasons and achieve growth. With his expertise, experience and personality, Peer Naubert is a very important building block for our further growth strategy. We are therefore very happy to have him on board.”
Bastian Zuber’s contract as Managing Director of DFL Digital Sports GmbH has also been extended. Zuber has been with the DFL since 2012, initially serving as commercial director before being appointed Managing Director in September 2019. He is responsible for managing web and app content, social media channels, and the production of formats for the international product portfolio. Since early 2024, the 48-year-old has also led the DFL’s Digital Business Development Directorate, focusing on digital initiatives and growth projects.
Marc Lenz, DFL CEO and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of DFL Digital Sports, highlighted Zuber’s impact: “Digital offerings are an important factor globally in bringing the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 closer to the fans. DFL Digital Sports implements our online offerings very well through fan and broadcaster-oriented offerings, which also strengthens the central marketing and growth prospects of the clubs. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Bastian Zuber as a valued digital expert and to further developing the DFL Group and media offerings together.”
These contract extensions reflect the DFL’s commitment to stability and strategic growth in both international markets and digital innovation.
