England Using Fitness Data To Prepare For Euro Final

Over the next 48 hours, Gareth Southgate and his coaching staff will be drilling into unique fitness data as they prepare for the biggest game in England’s history for over 55 years.

Throughout the tournament, Southgate and his backroom team have been using GPS football tracking device, STATSports, to analyse and manage player work and stress loads.

Southgate has been widely praised for getting so many key decisions right in this Euros campaign, such as utilising squad members, and STATSports’ unique metrics will help him prepare with pinpoint accuracy, as he bids to ensure his team are in peak condition come Sunday night.

Before the tournament, the England backroom staff had a STATSports employee embedded in the team, who continues to help them use complex data to make informed decisions around the recovery process and training plans ahead of the Euro 2020 final at Wembley.

STATSports spokesperson, said: “I know that the England performance analysts will analyse our data and use it to help educate the decisions they make on Sunday.

“We provide real-time, objective, granular information they can make decisions from. Its marginal gains such as these that can make a huge difference.

“Understanding what happened in the win over Denmark and the effects on players’ loads, is crucial for ensuring the team peak at the right time for the next game.

“Of course, lots of other information and non-statistical considerations will go into the preparations for Sunday but our data will help Gareth understand where his players are, taking an accurate snapshot of their performance.”

Company co-founder Alan Clarke worked as GPS analyst during Fabio Capello’s reign of England, and the current national captain Harry Kane has now invested in STATSports along with several of his teammates.

Raheem Sterling, Harry Maguire and Phil Foden are also ambassadors alongside original investor Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and England women’s captain Stephanie Houghton.

“These players are not just sitting silently investing their money in and standing back,” STATSports spokesperson added. “They’ve used our products throughout their careers. They have some really good ideas and insights because they’re at the coalface.

“The England players are using the technology every day to achieve their maximum and so they know the value in it and the importance of feedback.”
