Everton Added To City Region’s Fair Employment Charter
Everton Football Club has been recognised by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority for its commitment to creating a fair and equitable working environment for its employees.
Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram’s inaugural Fair Employment Charter was issued on Tuesday, with Everton among more than 50 organisations that have signed up and been awarded ‘Aspiring’ status.
The charter, launched last year, celebrates local businesses and organisations that are blazing a trail in adopting fair employment practices and offering avenues to training and progression for all.
Inclusion on the charter reinforces the standing of Everton, Everton in the Community and Everton Free School and Football College, as one of the leading and fairest employers in the North West.
Last month, Everton was named one of the best places to work in the UK by Best Companies for the fifth year running and, in September, reiterated its commitment to the Living Wage Foundation, six years after becoming only the second Premier League club to agree to pay the ‘Real Living Wage’.
Since launching All Together Now, a dedicated equity, diversity and inclusion campaign in December 2018, Everton has also been awarded the ‘Advanced’ level of the Premier League’s Equality Standard, named a ‘leader’ of the UK Government’s Disability Confident employer scheme, and become a ‘champion’ of Stonewall, Europe’s leading charity for lesbian, gay, bi and trans equality.
The club has also adopted flexible and remote working practices, and introduced new policies and initiatives aimed at offering improved mental health and wellbeing support to staff.
Kim Healey, Everton’s Chief People and Culture Officer, said: “As the People’s Club, we care about our people and ensuring our staff feel valued, rewarded and that they belong – all within an environment in which they can truly develop and thrive.
“We are proud of our commitment to wellbeing, equity and inclusion, contributing to the social and economic growth of our region and community, and being a fair, responsible and exciting organisation to work for.
“The honour of being included on the Fair Employment Charter illustrates that commitment, and we would encourage other businesses and organisations across the Liverpool City Region to put themselves forward and join us.”
