Premier League boss Richard Scudamore spoke to members of the Everton Business Club at Goodison Park on Tuesday.

The Executive Chairman of the highest tier of association football in England addressed over 100 members of the Merseyside commercial community at Everton Business Club’s final event of the 2015/16 season.

Richard Scudamore, who was at Goodison Park throughout the day for the final of the Premier League’s prestigious Schools Tournament involving over 300 young people from across the country, spoke of his admiration for the club and it’s official charity Everton in the Community.

Praising the charity for its bravery in tackling serious social issues that others often shy away from, by using the power of football, Scudamore, said: “Everton, probably more than any other club, does more in its community generally than just about anybody else.

“What goes on at Everton Football Club in terms of community, education, young people all the way through enterprise and then into business – every aspect of the local community Everton see themselves at the centre of and they’re a real example to other clubs.”

The event, which was the fourth networking event of the 2015/16 season, also featured John McDonald, Everton 4 Employment Manager for Everton in the Community, who spoke in detail to members about the work of the charity and how it is helping 16-24 year-olds to seek employment in Liverpool.

McDonald also talked about the charity’s successful Apprenticeships programme, which has helped 45 young people to establish careers across the Club and charity since 2011.

The Blues’ networking forum, which launched in November 2015 and already has 500 members, provides local companies and individuals the opportunity to mix football with commerce.

Richard Kenyon, Everton’s Director of Marketing and Communications, added: “We are really pleased with the progress the Everton Business Club has made during its inaugural year.

“We have successfully engaged with the vibrant and strong business community here in Liverpool by providing a completely new networking forum, which combines two of the most important institutions in the city – football and business.

“Plans are already underway to build upon this season and make the Everton Business Club even more of a valuable tool for local companies.”
