Everton Owners Explore Sale Of Controlling Stake
The Friedkin Group has appointed Moelis & Company to assess new investment options for Everton, including a potential sale of a controlling interest in the Premier League club.
The Friedkin Group (TFG) is exploring strategic investment options for Everton Football Club, less than two years after completing its takeover of the Merseyside club.
The ownership group said the review could include the sale of a controlling interest, with any prospective investor assessed on its ability to act as a suitable long-term steward of the club.
TFG said its initial focus after taking control was to stabilise Everton’s finances, provide investment and support, and help bring the club’s new stadium project to completion.
With that foundation in place, the group believes the club is ready to consider its next phase of ownership and investment. It added that it would only engage with parties capable of building on the momentum established at Everton.
During the process, TFG said it would continue to support Everton’s on-pitch ambitions and its work in the communities the club serves.
The group and the club do not intend to comment further while the review is under way. Moelis & Company has been retained to advise TFG.
TFG completed its takeover of Everton, ending former owner, Farhad Moshiri’s tenure and acquiring a 99.5% stake in a deal reported to be worth more than £400m.
The transaction made Everton the 10th Premier League club under majority American control.
