General Sports Worldwide Helps Clubs Build Business Success

Partnering with three football clubs for the 2025/26 season, General Sports Worldwide (GSW) is enhancing its reputation as a business that can support the varying needs of sporting organisations.

That’s the view of the company’s Chief Executive Officer Sam Rush after GSW recently helped Sunderland prepare behind the scenes for their return to the Premier League, whilst also securing new long-term contracts to provide ongoing exclusive commercial support to Reading and Carlisle United.

The global sports management and marketing company has a proven track record in brokering football club mergers and acquisitions, athlete representation and executive searches.

However, it is in club commercial and organisational consultancy where they have seen significant recent growth as clubs look for support to drive efficiencies and increase revenues.

Rush said: “At GSW we pride ourselves on our ability to offer a broad spectrum of services to sporting organisations.

“We specialise in executive search, mergers and acquisitions, talent management and communications support but the consultancy side of the business is particularly expanding as clubs recognise the help, we can provide to significantly increase their revenues.”

GSW partnered with Sunderland and SeatGeek to launch a new ticketing platform ahead of the Wearside club’s first topflight season in eight years.

As part of their long-standing commercial consultancy partnership with the club, GSW helped facilitate the club’s transition to SeatGeek’s market-leading enterprise ticketing platform.

The new platform represents an exciting step forward for Sunderland as they continue to invest in fan experience to bring the best products and services to their supporters, digitally and in the Stadium of Light on match-days.

GSW, meanwhile, were appointed by the new owners of Reading FC to provide exclusive commercial consultancy support to the EFL club.

The 154-year-old club was purchased in May by Redwood Holdings Limited – a subsidiary company of Dogwood LLC, owned by Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair of New Orleans, Louisiana.

The remit consists of increasing incremental revenue through partnerships with a key focus on international, national and regional brands.

Carlisle’s aim is a quick-fire return to the EFL, but they are already on track for a record-breaking commercial season, thanks to the support GSW has been providing the Cumbrian club with since April.

GSW have overseen a restructure of the club’s partnership programme and are heading up the partnership sales effort with the focus on national and regional opportunities. They have also led a review of the club’s matchday hospitality and sponsorship opportunities, as well as pricing strategy.

Rush added: “Several of GSW’s key personnel spent a number of years working for football clubs in senior positions so they bring a level of experience that we feel really cannot be matched by other sports companies in our sector.

“With our expertise and experience we are committed to ensuring we continue to successfully support all our clients to reach their goals.”
