In Focus: All Sport Insurance - Providers For The Sporting World

All Sport Insurance are specialist insurance brokers for athletes focusing on motor, property, career ending injury and business insurance. They work with clubs and players associations to provide education and support athletes with their insurance requirements. Relationship Manager, Amy Derham tells fcbusiness how they are helping athletes get the best insurance advice to make the correct decisions.

How does insurance differ for sports professionals and what happens if they don’t disclose their sporting profession on an insurance policy?

Athletes are often considered higher risk by insurance companies. Because of this some insurance companies will be unwilling to provide cover and those that do offer cover often charge higher premiums to compensate for the associated higher risk.

We have seen many examples of individuals disclosing a different occupation to their actual occupation in order to secure a lower insurance premium. Whilst this may seem like a good short cut to securing a lower insurance premium, failing to accurately declare your occupation may result in any insurance claim being reduced or rejected by the insurer.

What are the most important things for a player to consider when purchasing insurance?

It is important to declare the full and correct information to an insurer at the outset of a policy. Areas which are particularly susceptible to incomplete or incorrect disclosure include:

Occupation – with policyholders often amending their disclosed occupation in order to secure a lower premium.

Driving offences and other convictions – with policyholders often failing to declare all driving offences and convictions.

Class of use – with policyholders often failing to understand when they need business cover.

Annual mileage driven – with policyholders often under declaring their annual mileage.

The experienced team at All Sport will help each athlete to disclose the correct information and can advise on any questions they may have.

Do athletes require Career Ending Injury insurance?

Many professional athletes are at risk of serious injury on a continuous basis. Whilst the risk of injury and illness may be unavoidable, its financial impact can be significantly mitigated with the proper planning and the correct insurance cover in place.

Career Ending Injury Insurance provides financial protection against the potential loss of earnings if an athlete’s career is either interrupted or prematurely ended due to an accident or illness. A personal career ending injury policy provides cover to ‘top up’ any insurance provision of a central playing contract and should be something that every player considers.

What is the benefit of using a specialist sports insurer?

Rather than entering your details online into a comparison site, it’s worth speaking to a specialist insurer who can advise on the best policy for your specific needs. At All Sport, we can tailor each policy based on each individuals’ circumstances and explore all the markets available to us to obtain the right insurance solution. Our policies will never compromise on protection, giving athletes the peace of mind to focus on achieving their sporting dreams.

“Amy from All Sport Insurance delivered a very informative talk with our U18 and U23 squads here at Blackburn Rovers. The information she gave was very clear, concise and relatable to their age. The players learnt about the pitfalls that young footballers fall in to, such as citing they are a student when really this would invalidate their insurance. Her communication skills are second to none with the players able to engage and communicate with her very easily. Feedback from the players showed that they gained new information and enjoyed speaking with Amy.”

How do All Sport work with clubs to provide support for players?

We’re proud to work closely with clubs and players associations to deliver insurance education workshops which are designed to educate players and ensure that they have the correct cover in place. During the workshop we highlight the key pitfalls to avoid when purchasing insurance and answer some of the common questions we see, some of which we’ve highlighted above.

Whilst incorrect disclosures may not always occur intentionally a reduced or declined insurance claim may have a significant financial impact on an individual. Our workshops are therefore intended to raise awareness of the potential risks associated with purchasing insurance and offer players the opportunity to ask questions or complete an insurance ‘health check’ with a member of our team should they, or the club, be worried that they may not have adequate cover in place with their existing policy.

Insurance can be a minefield, but we pride ourselves on the high level of service and support we provide to our policyholders.
