Frictionless Service Isn't A Luxury Upgrade It’s A Stadium Investment That Pays Back Fast

After three decades working across football and stadium tech, Gordon Kaye, Sales & Marketing Director at Kappture, has seen countless innovations promise uplift and fail to deliver. Here, he explains why frictionless service is different and why the ROI case finally stacks.

After more than 30 years working in football and tech, chances are I’ve either sat in your chair or been in the room where it happens. I’ve fought for budgets that needed to prove themselves fast, and that’s why I’m confident saying this: frictionless has officially crossed the line from “nice to have” to “commercial no-brainer.”

If you’ve ever tried to push through a major tech upgrade at a football club, you know how tough it can be. The numbers alone can stop a project in its tracks. A typical frictionless retail store deployment can easily climb north of £200,000 in CapEx, and good luck getting that signed off on ROI alone. The first generation of AI solutions are tech heavy, data heavy, require a server room which means you can add another £35,000 or more for a fire suppression system to protect the kit.

For most venues, even Premier League sides, those numbers create their own kind of friction. When a stadium isn’t operating seven days a week, that kind of investment just doesn’t make commercial sense. Sure, it’s easier to justify when you’re running a store open every day, with hundreds of SKUs and huge footfall. In that environment, cameras, scales, and RFID tech can earn their keep.

But for football? Rugby? Cricket? I had my doubts too. That’s why I was cautious when I first looked at Kappture’s frictionless proposition. Kappture Vision, though, turned out to be something entirely different.

Why This Model Works

Anyone working in the commercial side of sport knows the reality: if a CapEx project can’t prove a fast, measurable ROI, it’s dead-on arrival. Clubs will invest heavily, and rightly so, in the football department. But on the business side, unless there’s sponsorship backing or a proven case, the budget rarely appears.

That’s what’s changed. Kappture’s approach has moved frictionless from “interesting” to proven, powered by a zero-CapEx model through BRISK. It lets us assess a site and calculate the ROI upfront before a club spends a single penny. That flips the question from “Can we afford it?” to “Can we afford not to?”

It’s already been proven at Norwich City and at Dublin’s 80,000-capacity Croke Park. Two more venues are going live in the next six weeks, each using Kappture Vision to power frictionless kiosk and bar experiences. Both are tracking ROI in under 12 months with immediate revenue uplift. That kind of evidence ends the ROI debate and unlocks decisions to invest.

The Small Print

Zero CapEx really means zero CapEx. BRISK covers the tech, installation, and everything needed to launch. The only caveat is that if you’re not already using multi-dispense units, you’ll need to. BRISK is designed to deliver service at the speed of demand, and that only works if your bar can pour pints at the same pace.

For context, one BRISK bar recently processed 14 orders selling 39 pints, in just under 60 seconds. If pints are your main game, MDUs aren’t optional; they’re essential.

Why It Matters to F&B Leaders

No one is busier than a stadium F&B team (feel free to argue otherwise). Matchdays, events, relentless turnarounds, there’s barely time to breathe, let alone evaluate “the latest and greatest” tech.

The good news is that Kappture Vision doesn’t add to that pressure. It reduces it by:

– Cutting queues and reducing abandonment at peak times, turning five, ten, even twenty-minute waits into throughput opportunities.

– Increasing spend per head through faster service of your best-selling products.

– Optimising staff deployment, freeing people to handle value-add tasks instead of queues.

– Providing clear, actionable data to improve performance every event day

– Working with you existing POS provider

A Pragmatic Path to ROI (Before You Commit)

This isn’t about ripping out or replacing your bars and kiosks. BRISK can integrate with most existing setups using a zero-CapEx model that allows us to:

1. Assess your venue quickly, looking at concourses, bars, and pinch points.

2. Model the numbers: throughput, queue-time reduction, spend per head, and event uplift.

3. Present a clear ROI case you can take to your board, grounded in your venue’s reality, not vendor spin.

If You’ve Read This Far

If you’re a Commercial Director or Head of F&B, take a moment to look up from the matchday grind and test the case.

We’ll run a no-obligation ROI check on your venue to show, in black and white, whether frictionless stacks up for you. If it does, you’ll have the evidence you need for sign-off. If it doesn’t, you’ll know fast, with no CapEx spent.
