In Focus: Premier League Security

Who cares about the security needs of professional footballers? Premier League Security does.

With the end of the football season in sight and the imminent start of the 2024 Euros, now is the time players and their families traditionally take time off on holiday, move house or the players themselves to a new club as they move on with their career.

This can be a time of upheaval for players and families alike. So, take time to consider yours and your family’s security arrangements.

If you are away from home for even a short period of time and you are a public figure it won’t go unnoticed by people who can easily access and utilise online opensource research materials such as football clubs fixture lists and people’s social media posts.

Now is a good time to investigate improvements to your security systems and procedures by using the time off or the time away to ensure that you and your family are as safe as possible.

Whilst it’s been said many times that security companies are cutting edge and game changers, Premier League Security (PLS) are focused on continued commitment to their clients by improving all aspects of security that make the biggest differences.

A full security package that fits the player and his family’s needs isn’t something that happens overnight it needs to be built up to the point where we can deliver a secure environment in your home whilst being discreet. We understand that security can be at first slightly intrusive, but we want to make sure your family feel safe and secure in the home with the minimum amount of inconvenience. The key to building a successful working relationship is the trust we look to build between our clients’ expectations and needs, and the requirements of our highly trained security staff to provide a professional security package.

At PLS we look at working along with your existing systems and enhancing them either by adding new technologies or enhancing your legacy system. Little changes can often mean big improvements. That said, if you are moving into a new property or one that has no security features, PLS is well equipped to bring together all the elements needed to secure your home. We do this firstly by carrying out a full in-depth risk assessment of your residential property and by listening to you and your family’s security requirements.

Security is all about routines. When thinking of a Residential Security Team (RST) it’s important to have the correct Close Protection Operatives (CPO) on a regular basis.

When something is spotted that’s out of the ordinary, how does someone know it’s out of the ordinary if it’s the first time they have seen it? Routine is key along with a regular team that’s why our Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are written specifically towards your individual requirements.

As a client of PLS, if you require a larger security presence for a VIP event at your residence or large event space, we will be equipped to provide all the security requirements at the event for both the client and their family as well as the VIPs in attendance. Again, staffing is key when hosting events at different venues. It’s always a major advantage to have well qualified and trained employees at the event rather than subcontracting out such specialist security operations to agency staff.

Should any additional security presence be required you can guarantee the integrity of our employees as all our staff are recruited predominantly from the military, by word of mouth and personal recommendation.

Before starting work with PLS, all staff are checked and cleared for work with a new enhanced DBS as well as being personally vetted by our vetting officer to ensure that you can feel confident in the fact that you can conduct business in the presence of your CPO.

All our team are fully qualified CPOs and licenced by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) having first gained a recognised first aid qualification. All our team members have the upmost professionalism and discretion and will have current Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA’s) tailored to you and your family’s needs prior to starting work for any of our VIP clients.

Considerations / questions a client should ask:

Security surveys, when was the last time your property was last surveyed and risk assessed for security improvements if at all? If there are improvements that can be made with minimal impact on you and your family, would you carry them out? And if so, who would do them?

At PLS we can complete the risk assessment and then either carry out the work directly for the client or work with our recommended partners to install things such as panic rooms or security fogging systems in garages, kitchens etc.

Fogging systems are something that have been commonplace in commercial properties for a long time, however, they can be well utilised in a residential property. These can be installed with minimum impact on your family and property but with great results. In the event of a home invasion a fogger can immediately fill a large room within your property giving you vital seconds to call for assistance.

Panic rooms are popular and a recognized addition to residential security but it’s important not only to maintain and test them, it’s also imperative that the family are familiar with how to utilise and use them quickly and efficiently in an emergency.

Protocols play a strong part in security and PLS will review your day-to-day routines and look at how things can be improved discreetly from a security aspect to maximise the family’s awareness to the environment.

At PLS we can supply security/chauffeur drivers with defensive driving skills and a CPO licence to ensure you get safely from A to B. Our drivers can either drive your vehicles (with the correct insurances) or we can supply a specific vehicle if required to transport up to eight adult passengers if required.

One aspect of security that is frequently overlooked is Cyber Security. Do you have a highly visible digital footprint; how much of your personal information can be accessed online from open-source research materials including social media platforms by criminals intent on committing financial or physical crimes against you or your family? Why not book an appointment with one of our Cyber Security specialists who can advise you on how to improve yours and your family’s online safety?

Player transfers, this can be time of great upheaval for a player and their family. Not only are you moving to a new club, but you could be moving to a new country and decisions need to be made. Will it be a short-term move or something more permanent accompanied by your family?

Your Player Liaison Officer may assist you in some aspects of your move but think about the overall security of you, your family and your household if moving. Consider where you are moving from and where you are moving to. At PLS our Player Transition Manager will seek local knowledge on your behalf to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible allowing you to concentrate on your career.
