LALIGA Clubs Attracted 11 Million Fans Last Season
The interest in watching LALIGA football live continues to grow in Spain season after season.
According to data collected by the sports business outlet Palco 23 in its Facts & Figures Attendance at LALIGA Stadiums study sponsored by Caixabank, last season saw a 2.3% increase in the number of spectators at LALIGA EA SPORTS stadiums, reaching an average attendance rate of 82.2%, with a total of 11,011,987 spectators.
The stadiums that hosted the most spectators throughout the season were the Santiago Bernabéu and the Cívitas Metropolitano, the homes of Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, being the only ones to surpass the million-fan mark with 1,369,162 and 1,134,886, respectively.
Meanwhile, Real Betis ranked third in this list, gathering 972,317 spectators in the 19 matches they played at home.
Following them is Athletic Club, which attracted 844,793 spectators to San Mamés, while 824,975 attended Mestalla to support Valencia CF.
FC Barçelona, with its move to Lluis Companys whilst the Camp Nou undergoes extensive renovations, brought together a total of 757,075 fans and ranks sixth. In this ranking, Sevilla FC is seventh, with 673,237 fans attending all matches played at the Sánchez Pizjuán.
Eighth place goes to Real Sociedad, which gathered 602,489 fans at Anoeta in 19 matches, and ninth place to UD Las Palmas, with 475,774. Rounding out the top 10 is RC Celta, where Abanca Balaídos hosted 380,737 fans throughout the season, despite being in the midst of renovations.
At the bottom of this list are Rayo Vallecano (242,409), Girona FC (237,885), and Getafe CF (217,671), which have the stadiums with the least capacity, although the first two recorded high average attendance percentages above 80%.
This same report also highlights that May, during which a total of five matchdays were played, was the month with the highest stadium attendance, with around 1.5 million fans, coinciding with the final stretch of the season.
September was also a good month in terms of attendance, with 1.3 million spectators; along with December 2023 and January, February, and March 2024, with approximately 1.2 million fans attending the stadiums during those months.
LALIGA HYPERMOTION also grows
This season, LALIGA HYPERMOTION also experienced a 3% growth in stadium attendance, according to data provided by LALIGA. In the 462 regular season matches of the second division, over 4.8 million spectators attended the games of the 22 teams that make up the category, with an average of 10,494.
The list of stadiums with the highest average attendance is led by three historic Spanish football clubs. In this case, Real Zaragoza is first with an average of 22,535 spectators at La Romareda, while Stage Front Stadium of RCD Espanyol achieved an average of 20,105. Closing out the top 3 is Real Sporting with an average of 19,508 spectators.
