Matchsaver Deliver Pitch Protection Solution To Helsinki’s Olympic Stadium
Helsinki’s Olympic stadium is Finland’s multipurpose arena built for a 1940 Olympics which, because of World War II, never took place. Instead, the 1952 Olympics were hosted there with both the opening and closing ceremonies, the athletics and football finals all taking place under the watchful gaze of its iconic tower.
Since then, this famous stadium has hosted innumerable World and European sporting finals and has always been a home stadium for the Finnish National Football Team.
In 2016 a major renovation was implemented including the renewal of the field and track areas together with a whole host of new improvements to bring the stadium right up to date for modern requirements.
This summer Matchsaver Pitch Protection were asked to submit specifications to protect the main turfed field area from the weather. After discussions and site visits a set of 7 waterproof Air Roller Covers were selected to provide the solution the stadium grounds team were looking for, namely flexible and convenient pitch protection from rain and snow. The Air Roller Covers needed to be slightly longer than usual to accommodate tolerances near the 400m running track.
The kit was delivered ahead of schedule in the early September. The Air Roller Covers have already been put to work as winter approaches. The Stadium Grounds team have been delighted with the result.
