Morecambe Football Club has been put up for sale it’s been announced today.
Chairman and majority shareholder, Peter McGuigan, will begin the search for fresh investment in the League 2 side to ‘take the club forward’ after announcing his decison to the sell the North West club.
“Having been Chairman for 16 years, I feel the time is right for a new owner to take the club forward and build on a strong platform that exists today,” said McGuigan in a statement.
Morcambe moved into the Globe Arena, which it wholly owns and was built at a cost of £12m in August 2010. they are also virtually debt free.
“There is an opportunity to develop the ground further with a new office block, as well as a hotel adjacent to the stadium,” added McGuigan.
“These exciting developments will assist in securing the long-term financial viability of the club.
“At present we are looking for expressions of interests from individuals who have the financial ability to take this club further.”
