Jamie Carragher Sports & Learning Academy have teamed up with SCL Education & Training to deliver an education and football development programme to 16-18 year olds, offering them a stepping stone into a career in sport, and in further education.

The two-year, full-time programme, delivered in partnership with SCL, provides learners with a unique opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification, whilst enjoying an excellent full-time football training programme, provided by UEFA and qualified coaches.

All educational aspects of the programme are fully managed by the official education partner, SCL; a leading independent provider of education through sport, with a track record and over 15 years’ experience in engaging, educating and developing young people.

Learners at Jamie Carragher Academy benefit from a great sporting set up, as they experience a professional sporting environment and daily football training, alongside expert guidance and advice on nutrition and individual football fitness.

In addition, learners benefit Jamie Carragher’s wealth of experience, enjoying monthly visits from the retired Premier League footballer himself, as he works closely with them to understand how they are developing and progressing through their programme.

Couple this with a support network from SCL consisting of specialist tutors, curriculum managers, quality assessors and operations support; it’s a programme that is hard to rival.

Academy Director, James Olsen, explained: “The staff are key to supporting the students on a one-to-one or in small groups, to enhance social and academic development. We offer kick back sessions at our Academy for local schools to bring a class of 30 children for our students to deliver football and multi sports sessions as part of the students’ personal development.

“The children love these sessions and the students really get high self-esteem seeing the local children in the community have a fun and social morning or afternoon.”

Upon completion of the programme, learners will have the opportunity to progress onto fantastic exit routes, including professional or semi-professional football, further education, scholarships abroad, training or employment.

Olsen continued: “The programme gives the students a balance between education and playing football, with coaching skills added to it. This opens doors at our Soccer Schools for any young leaders or sports coaches who show an eye to develop their coaching skills. We have strong links with non-league football teams for players to move on and play at a high level. The course also qualifies the students to move on to university if they wanted to get a degree.

On the partnership with official education providers, SCL Education & Training, Olsen added: “SCL are a national training education provider that offer education through sports. They offer and support us with a wide-range of engaging, forward thinking and successful programmes.

“They offer a great support to our students who can then pursue a sporting career leading to employment or further education. During the last 6 months SCL staff have really established themselves at our centre and the students have took to them quickly building up a good working relationship.”
