Delete Blood Cancer UK is appealing to football teams to help it save lives.

With only 60 per cent of blood cancer patients in need of a blood stem cell donation able to find a suitable donor for their survival, Delete Blood Cancer UK’s ‘Show your Tekkers’ challenge is a way for football teams to get involved and have fun whilst raising awareness of how people can register as potential lifesavers.

Tekkers Challenge

Delete Blood Cancer UK have created the ‘Show your tekkers’ challenge which follows on from its successful ‘Are you gonna show?’ campaign which it launched last year.

Both campaigns are aimed at young men in particular as they are most likely to be chosen to donate blood stem cells to a patient in need of a lifesaving donation.

For the challenge, the charity will visit the grounds of participating teams so that players can take part and show their skills by kicking balls through a specially made Delete Blood Cancer UK goal. The whole club will be invited to take part including the manager, training staff, kit man, youth teams and women’s teams.

Delete Blood Cancer UK will film and photograph the tekkers challenge for their website and social media platforms and also work with YouTube skills stars, football pundits and other celebrities with an interest in the charity.

Speaking about the tekkers challenge, Ben Allen, marketing manager at Delete Blood Cancer UK, said:

“With around 2,000 people every year in the UK seeking a matching donor, only sixty per cent will find the donor they need.

“Too many are dying because a matching donor cannot be found for them. It doesn’t have to be this way.

“The more people who register as potential blood stem cell donors, the better the chances of matching donors being found for those who need them.

“That’s why we have created the tekkers challenge, to raise important awareness while having a bit of light-hearted fun.”

Please contact ben.allen@deletebloodcancer.org.uk if you’d like to take part and arrange a visit to your ground.

The campaign hashtag is #DBCTekkers
