Solskjaer Talks About Rooney Managing Manchester United After England Soccer Aid Announcement

It was recently announced that the former England captain, record goalscorer, and Derby County’s Wayne Rooney will be Managing England on the next Soccer Aid for Unicef that will be held later this year and fans and the man himself is excited for this.

This sports event will be raising funds for the United Kingdom’s Unicef to help aid the organisation’s efforts towards the 2019 coronavirus pandemic. Soccer Aid has always been a friendly-style football match that is headed by celebrities and professional players representing their countries. It is also one of the popular football events that many people would wager on each year with many land/online and PayPal bookies.

Originally, this year’s Soccer Aid was scheduled on June 6 of this year. However, like many other major sports events around the world, the event was postponed. What’s known as of the moment is that it will return to the Old Trafford in September and will take place behind closed doors. This has been the case for the sports events in Europe and the UK since they were allowed to return in May/June. The exact time and date of the Soccer Aid are yet to be announced.

The match will be broadcasted live on ITV and STV. The live event will be presented by Dermot O’Leary and Kirsty Gallacher who is returning as the pitch-side reporter.

Rooney has said that he is looking forward to managing challenges and opportunities. He said, “Taking part in Soccer Aid for Unicef is something I have wanted to do for many years. Previously, I have never been able to make the dates work, but this year was different. I was enormously proud to be asked to manage the England team and although there will be no fans at the match, it is always special to go back to Old Trafford.”

He added, “I’d like to thank Derby County Football Club for giving me special dispensation to take part in the match. Soccer Aid for Unicef is a show that we’ve always tried to watch as a family over the years. The names taking part this year will make it one of the most exciting to-date, so I hope everyone at home tunes in.”

Manchester United’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently talked about Rooney and his potential to manage the team after this announcement. He said that he could see the football star managing the Red Devils in the future if he wants to.

Solskjaer said, “It depends on how much you put into the job and how much you want it. “It takes over your life but it’s the best, the second-best, after playing so I’m sure there are many ex-players and managers that would like to have my job.”

It was also announced that Rooney will be working with Sam Allardyce as his co-manager. David Seaman who is the former goalkeeper for the England national team will be serving as the goalkeeping coach for the match that will be held in September at Manchester’s United’s Old Trafford.

Rooney talked about how he’s excited about working with Sam and David. He said, “Simply, representing your country is always a huge honor and this game is no different. I’m looking forward to working with Sam and David. Yes, the players and I want to win the match but the real victory is helping to raise millions of pounds for Unicef. This year, every £1 donated is automatically trebled thanks to the UK Government and Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance, so I would ask people to donate if they can.”

Many stars will be debuting for this year’s Soccer Aid as well like the former England internationals like Kelly Smith, David James, and Lianne Sanderson. The same goes for Manchester United and France defender Patrice Eva. Joel Dommett, Jason Manford, Santan Dave, and James Bay will also be debuting this year.

Returning players include Wes Brown, Yaya Toure, Robbie Keane, and Katie Chapman. Celebrities like Olly Murs, Marvin Humes, Joe Wicks, and Kem Cetinay will also be present for this year’s Soccer Aid Cup. More players who will also be present will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

Soccer Aid is a British charity annual sports event that has raised over 36 million pounds for the UK Unicef. This was initiated or founded by Robbie Williams and Jonathan Wilkes in 2006. Initially, the event only takes place every two years. However, since 2018, this has become an annual event that is produced by Initial and distributed by Endemol Shine Sport.
