Steve Varley has been appointed the new chair of the board of trustees for the LFC Foundation, following the retirement of Gavin Laws.

Steve takes on the role with a wealth of experience across both business and non-profit sectors and will play a key role in the continued growth of the LFC Foundation.

In this role as Chair of the LFC Foundation, Steve is committed to driving change through the Sustainable Development Goals which are designed to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all, something which perfectly aligns with the goals of Liverpool Football Club and the LFC Foundation’s work through The Red Way.

His dedication to social responsibility and community development aligns with the work of the LFC Foundation and his experience and knowledge will be invaluable to the club’s official charity.

Steve Varley, said: “I am honoured to be appointed chair of the trustees for the LFC Foundation, having joined as a trustee earlier this year I have already seen first-hand the incredible work that is being done and I look forward to playing my part in developing that going forward.

“Liverpool as a city and a football club holds a special place in my heart and I look forward to working closely with Matt Parish, the board of trustees and the wider team at the Foundation to continue to inspire change and support our communities both at home and away.”

Matt Parish, added: “Steve brings with him a fantastic amount of experience and an unwavering commitment to social impact.

“His leadership and expertise will be invaluable as we strive to continue to tackle social inequality in our communities both here in the Liverpool City Region and also internationally as we develop our work over the next five years, and we look forward to seeing that progress even more under his guidance.”

The LFC Foundation supported over 127,000 people last year, with almost 60% of those coming from the top 20% most deprived areas of the country. Steve will now help to oversee the continued growth of the LFC Foundation with a focus on three key areas which are health, learning and employability.
