This represents an increase of £2.1m compared to the 2023–24 financial year reflecting the continued growth across the club’s commercial and matchday revenues, alongside strengthened partnerships.

The figures, which are from the club’s last season in the EFL Championship before promotion to the Premier League, show they recorded the highest revenue generation of any Championship club without parachute payments during the reporting period.

Representing a £7.0m improvement on the previous year’s figure, Sunderland Limited reported an operating loss of £1.1m.

This was driven, in part, by the ongoing development of the club’s player trading model, which remains a key component of Sunderland’s long-term growth and sustainability.

Player trading for the year, including early transactions in the 2025 summer transfer window, generated £45.8m of profit which led to an overall operating loss of £0.3m.

A change in the club’s retail business model reduced Cost of Sales, resulting in an increase of gross profit by £3.7m to £38.8m.

Gate receipts were up 14.3 per cent to £13.3m, the result of strong season ticket sales. Overall sponsorship increased to £3.9m, an increase of 67 per cent on the previous season.

The club’s Chief Finance Officer, Mike Papadimitriou, said: “Sunderland AFC’s 2024-25 financial statements reflect strong performance across key revenue streams, underpinned by the club’s fundamental strengths – the Stadium of Light, an engaged and passionate supporter base and a strong connection with the city.

“These foundations position the club well to capitalise on the increased exposure and commercial opportunities that accompany Premier League football.”
