Susan Black Steps Down As Liverpool Director Of Communications
Liverpool Football Club has announced Susan Black, the club’s Director of Communications, will be stepping down at the end of the season after 14 years in senior roles across the club.
In addition to her primary role as director of communications, she also serves as a Board Member and Executive Director of Liverpool FC Women and a Board Member of the Liverpool FC Foundation.
Susan has been primarily responsible for the club’s communications, engagement and employee communication functions working with multiple external, internal and industry stakeholders.
In 2014 she created and led the club’s first LFC Foundation Legends charity match to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Hillsborough. Following this she was invited to join the Foundation’s Board of Trustees alongside the club’s chairman, the then CEO and other Trustees.
In 2020, Susan was invited by Mike Gordon, President of FSG to join him and CEO, Billy Hogan to form the new Board of Directors for LFC Women where she led the Board’s strategic decision-making which resulted in the team being promoted back to the WSL; saw increased investment into LFC Women and the girls Pro Game Academy; enhanced club support to promote the teams; oversaw the reacquisition and return of AXA Melwood as the Women’s first team and Pro Game Academy training ground and was responsible for the appointment of the club’s first female Ambassador.
Billy Hogan, LFC’s CEO, said of her departure: “On behalf of the entire club, I would like to express my gratitude for Susan’s years of dedication and leadership across our Communications, LFC Women, and LFC Foundation functions.
“She has played a pivotal role in all three areas alongside her role as one of the long-standing members of our Executive team, and we thank her for her expertise and commitment. She has played an instrumental role in shaping our success and will be missed. We wish her well for the future and she will always be welcome at Anfield.”
Susan Black, said: “It really has been a great privilege to work for this incredible football club over the last 14 years. We are blessed at LFC to have so many incredibly talented, gifted and professional individuals who work together to ensure our club goes from strength to strength.
“I am moving on but in the knowledge that the building blocks that are in place are strong and fit for the future.”
Craig Evans, currently LFC’s VP Communications, will be promoted to the role of SVP Communications from 1 June 2025, assuming Susan’s communications responsibilities and leading the communications function.
Craig will report to Jonathan Bamber, currently LFC’s Chief Legal Officer who will take on the role of Chief Legal & External Affairs Officer and will also become a Trustee of the LFC Foundation.
LFC Women will continue to be led by its Board, with performance functions reporting directly into the football department which will ensure it has the right football knowledge and expertise to further develop and support LFC Women.
