Watford Offer Fans Option To Buy Shares In Club

Watford Football Club is seeking to raise capital by inviting fans to invest in the club to continue its growth.

The Championship club has been exploring opportunities to bring investment into the club as they look to grow further and bolster revenue streams which, in turn, will allow them to strengthen the playing squads.

Having looked at a number of options, Watford has decided to take the innovative step of becoming one of the first major English clubs to offer true ownership to fans and investors alike.

The club is aiming to offer approximately 10% of the club at a value of £17.5m, on the basis of a valuation of £175m. Having posted a pre-tax profit of £24.1m for the last financial year, reported to be the highest in the EFL, they believe this is a fair valuation.

Through this offering, fans, alongside investors will not only have the opportunity to own a share but may also be provided tokens and other exclusive offers, at the discretion of Watford FC.

The offerings will be hosted by Republic, an online investment platform, who have vast experience in digital equity offerings, having led similar projects in football previously.

Shares will be available for purchase on both the Republic platform and Seedrs, Republic’s platform in Europe, in either sterling or dollars with no necessity to purchase via cryptocurrency, like traditional share sales.

The price per share has been set at £12.44 and the minimum investment is four shares totalling £49.76 for investors purchasing their shares through the Seedrs platform, and eight shares totalling £99.52 for investors purchasing their shares through the Republic platform.

Once the shares have been purchased, there is a lock-up period of 12 months before trading is allowed.

Part of the funding will be channeled into recruitment to strengthen the playing squad as they seek a return to the Premier League.
