Wolverhampton Wanderers Partner With Gulf Racing For Le Mans Virtual

Wolverhampton Wanderers have agreed a new partnership with Gulf Racing for the 24 hours of Le Mans Virtual race.

The unique collaboration sees Wolves step into the racing world for the first time, with Gulf Racing’s Porsche 911 RSR GTE car kitted out in old gold and black Wolves branding.

Wolves already have an active eSports department competing in FIFA 20, PUBG, Kart Racing and Identity V and the addition of the 24 Hour of Le Mans which will take place virtually on 13th and 14th June, further advances that.

Organised by the ACO, FIA WEC and Motorsport Games, the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual will open a new era in sim racing. For the first time, teams made up of a combination of professional racing drivers and eSports champions will challenge each other in the virtual world, with the race broadcast live on television and online across the globe.

There are 50 teams contesting the race with a number of high-profile F1 stars taking part, including McLaren’s Lando Norris, Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen and former world champions Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso, as well as a large selection of professional sports car drivers and sim racers.

The driver line-up and car livery for the GR Wolves Racing team will be unveiled on Wolves’ social media channels over the next week.

Russell Jones, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ general manager for marketing and commercial growth, said: “This is a great opportunity for Wolves to enter the world of motor sports and extend our eSports portfolio.

“This partnership provides us with an opportunity to reach a brand-new audience and align the Wolves brand with one of the most iconic motor competitions in the world.

“We can’t wait to join forces with Gulf Racing and look forward to a fiercely competitive weekend.”

Mike Wainwright, owner of Gulf Racing said: “We are delighted to partner with Wolves for the 24 hours of Le Mans Virtual.

“Gulf Racing are a technical Racing team so it was important to find a partner that could help us navigate a new world of eSports.

“Wolves have made great strides in this area and we look forward to sharing our skills on this exciting venture.”

Full broadcast and streaming details will be made available later this week, but the race will be live on YouTube, Eurosport and Motorsport TV, and will kick-off on Saturday 13th June at 2pm BST.
