YinzCam Delivers Digital Fan Engagement For The Mexican Football Federation

How a federation app gets ready for the world stage.

As Mexico took the stage for the opening match of the World Cup last week, the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol Asociación worked with YinzCam, a US-based sports technology company, to launch a completely redesigned digital fan-engagement hub in their flagship app, Mi Selección.

As expected, the app has a fully bilingual mobile user experience, with every app page and every feature surfacing in either English or Spanish, based on the language the fan chooses.

The most important fan-engagement features are front and centre – the full Mexican World Cup team roster, a custom World Cup kit, a countdown to the next fixture for Mexico in the World Cup and all of the upcoming Mexico fixtures at the top of the home screen, right above the fold. And, of course, the slogan.

Tournament statistics, player and nation tracker

First, the Mi Selección app has a Player Tracker, listing all the Mexican football players, with their individual player stats (goals, assists, appearances and minutes played). There’s also a listing of the lineup for every match that Mexico plays or played in.

And, then, everything that a fan could want, in the form of a special Tournament Hub containing:

– All the fixtures, organised by date, and with the final score of the match.

– All the tables, showing the standings within each Group, with Mexico highlighted.

– All the Groups, with a breakdown of the matches happening within each Group.

– The Knockout round, for whenever that is needed.

– The Stats, showing the Top Scorers and Top Assists across all countries, once again with Mexico highlighted.

Fun features to drive repeat engagement

We released two brand-new, arcade-style, mini-games in the app, just in time for this tournament. In one game, you’re a runner who gets to dodge defenders, collect footballs, and rack up multipliers as your character runs across the screen. Or there’s your kick-up game (which we fondly nicknamed the Keepy-Uppy game), where every kick builds your multiplier, up to 5x. Beat your personal score, and then do it all over again.

And we knew that this moment called for face filters. It’s the World Cup, after all, and national pride is on full display across the globe. With our AR face-filters built into the Mi Selección app, fans can try on different face filters, take photos, save them to their device, and share El Tri straight to social media. Fans can virtually try on three versions (green, white, red, of course) of the Mexican national team jersey.

The Mi Selección app containing the new in-depth stats hub and fan-engagement features, launched in time for Mexico’s opening match on June 11th at Estadio Azteca. This hub has been designed with intention—to serve as the digital destination for Mexican football fans during the World Cup, and to keep them engaged all 39 days.
