Soccerex have announced Facebook will be participating at both the Global Convention in Manchester, 4-6 September, and the Asian Forum in Doha, 4-5 December.

The social media giant’s Sports Partnerships Lead for EMEA, Jerry Newman, will be sharing his expertise at both events, discussing Facebook’s collaborations in football and the many benefits the platform can give to rightsholders and other key stakeholders in the game.

Since it started in 2004, Facebook has been changing the way the world connects with the content they care about. Social media has impacted all areas of society including sport, and Facebook has supported the modernisation of football by enabling clubs to make and share different types of content for fans to view online.

When Manchester United and Wayne Rooney used Facebook Live to stream the player’s testimonial match against Everton, it marked the first game between two Premier League clubs to be shown live via the platform. Facebook continues to have a huge impact on the sport and has transformed the way football has been viewed online.

Jerry has worked in sport industry for more than twenty years, having previously working at the FA and Chelsea before his position at Facebook. His expertise and experiences lie in commercial, media, digital, CRM and marketing in sport and in particular, football. Having been Head of Digital Marketing and CRM and Chelsea for five years, during his eight year stay, he improved the club’s digital fan engagement for supporters all around the world.

At the Soccerex Global Convention, Jerry’s insights will be part of a digitally focused section of the event’s conference programme looking at topics such fan generated content, influencer marketing, broadcasting values and the media landscape. His knowledge and expertise will be hugely beneficial for rights holders looking to maximise the use of the platform to meet the needs for their fans.

With Jerry’s roles at Facebook seeing him work across the Europe, Middle East and Africa regions, his contribution to the Soccerex Asian Forum will allow him to focus on Facebook’s approach to the Middle East, discussing how the platform can best be used to engage Arabic fans.

Jerry will be contributing to a thought provoking conference programme at the Soccerex Global Convention, designed to deliver unique business insight across a variety of football’s key sectors from stadia design, sponsorship, international investment, the latest in wearable technology and the rise of influencer marketing.

At the Soccerex Asian Forum, Jerry will be involved with the regional topics of delivering major events, commercial growth and performance.  To view our recently launched conference concept for the Global Convention, click here.
