Final Copies Of Unique Pelé Book Go On Sale
As ‘Pelé’ is added to the Portuguese dictionary as an adjective that means ‘the best,’ owner of limited-edition Carnival; the autobiography of football legend Pelé, releases the last handful of the iconic books.
Football-crazy Brazilophile investor and owner of the last remaining copies of the ultra-luxurious Pelé autobiography, Max Burt, has announced he is to sell his legendary collection to raise money for his charity WheelEasy.
The opulent visually-rich book pays homage to Pelé’s life as one of history’s most exceptional sportsmen, who transcended life on the pitch – it details every aspect of his life through photographs and documents. These photographs include the rarely-seen collection of Andy Warhol prints of Pelé, and heroic shots of Pelé’s life off the pitch.
This limited-edition book comes complete with accompanying photographic print of the Brazilian World Cup-winning team of 1970, lined up next to their final opponents, Italy, at the Azteca Stadium.
All of these 150 prints were hand-signed by all 10 surviving members of that team together with the signature of their manager, Mario Zagallo. These images are the only memorabilia that has these signatures and comes with the provenance of their authenticity.
Presented in a collectables box, each piece is a work of art; hand-bound, covered in Italian silk, and embroidered with calfskin leather lettering. Included with the acquisition of Carnival are also a pair of white gloves that are inscribed with Pelé’s number 10 on the back and recommended for handling rare and timeless pieces.
Max Burt, Chief Executive Officer at WheelEasy, commented: “At Christmas the globe grieved over the passing of what was one of the greatest footballers ever to be known … Pelé!
“No team has ever dominated a tournament in the manner that the Selecao did during that summer. The Brazilians did more than win the tournament – they inspired a generation. There was something almost supernatural about their play.”
The book was originally released in the summer of 2006 by Gloria Books. They are housed in a controlled environment in London and will only be delivered to their new owners after acquisition.
50% of the sales will also be donated to Max Burt’s charity WheelEasy, which aims to deliver information to those with mobility challenges about how they can best enjoy their day-to-day leisure activities.
