FGR first teamed up with Sportsrooms as its official travel partner in 2021. In that same year, Sportsrooms launched their Green Team Travel initiative, helping to track and reduce their carbon footprint.

Together, they have tracked FGR’s carbon footprint for the 22/23 season. Overall, Rovers travelled 6,575 miles by coach and consumed 1,470 vegan meals in preparation for matches.

Sportsrooms worked with Carbon Neutral Britain to calculate FGR’s travel carbon footprint for the season, with the end result being 14.05 tCO2e. Sportsrooms and FGR are committed to reducing the team’s carbon footprint even further during the 23/24 campaign.

Chris Newsham, Director at Sportsrooms, said: “As a travel agency who specialises in elite sports travel we are acutely aware of the impact team travel has on the environment.

“Over the last couple of years, we have worked to create and develop a simple but effective solution for teams to track, manage and reduce their carbon footprint.

“As a long-standing partner of Forest Green Rovers, we are delighted to have been able to work with the club on this initiative to ensure carbon neutral team travel.

“Forest Green Rovers have long been the gold standard in sustainability in sport and we are proud to be working in partnership on such a valuable and important initiative.

“Our hope and vision is that many more sports teams will join the initiative in the years ahead to collectively reduce the environmental impact of professional sports.”
