Girls United London Launch Special Edition Away Kit - The Bowie Kit
Girls United launch their new London club away kit inspired by a cultural icon.
Real Madrid and Scotland star Caroline Weir has got her new Girls United London away kit and you have the opportunity to join her in wearing this unique design with pride!
The new kit and bespoke typeface and numbering were designed by multi-award winning creative studio Play and was chosen by the players from the club.
Inspired by their South London community and paying tribute to one of Brixton’s most celebrated icons, the Bowie kit connects the organisation to their roots and raises awareness around the barriers faced by girls and young women in Football.
Also wearing the Girls United London away kit is the incredible Hawa Doucoure who is not only a professional model working with the biggest names in fashion but also a leader of the inspirational Les Hijabeuses.
Les Hijabeuses movement advocates for women’s rights in France and specifically the right to wear the hijab whilst playing Football, which was banned by the French Football Federation. Hawa and the rest of the collective have created a safe space where women are welcome to wear their hijab.
Romina Calatayud, Girls United Founder and CEO commented: “Ultimately the legacy of this summer’s Euros will be determined by whether or not structural changes are made in order to address issues such as the dream gap and barriers faced by girls wishing to play Football are removed. More schools need to open their Football sessions to girls, pitches need to be made available and funding needs to reach the grassroots.”
Creative Director of Play, Niall Smillie, also commented: “It was a pleasure to work with Girls United on this amazing project, primarily because as an organisation they share our values and passion for the sport. But also because the work that they do is incredibly inspiring and we were over the moon to do what we could to support them in their goal of levelling the playing field, on and off the pitch, for girls and young women through the power of Football. Our goal is to collaborate with people in the Football space who believe that the sport can be used a force for good and Girls United certainly fall into that category.”
