How Has Bingo Changed Over The Years?
Bingo is a fantastic game that has existed for well over 100 years, and you could easily say that the game has never been as popular as it is in 2021! However, bingo isn’t the same game that it used to be – it’s now new and improved (for the most part).
We’re going to be taking a deep dive into how Barbados Bingo has changed over the years, so read on to find out more! We’re going to be taking a look at:
– The creation of new bingo varieties
– The age of online bingo
– The replacement of classic bingo calls
The Evolution of Bingo
One of the most notable changes bingo fans have witnessed over the years is the development of the game itself. Bingo used to be so simple – you’d turn up to your local bingo hall, give them a quid, and then you’d sit back and relax with friends and try your luck at the jackpot! However, people need variety so it wasn’t long until we got speed bingo, international varieties, and an uncountable number of other types of the game. However, the most significant change in bingo’s history has to be when the internet came about! Online bingo suddenly provided us with a truly unique way of playing bingo, offering glitzy graphics, sensational special offers and a variety of bingo games that we previously could never have imagined! In our opinion, all these developments have been fantastic. You can still play bingo in its original form if you want to, but all these new varieties truly provide something for everyone!
Bingo Cancel Culture
One of the more recent ways that bingo has changed over the years has been related to the bingo calls. Everyone loves bingo calls – they provided catchy little nicknames to the chosen numbers that often rhyme, reference history or popular culture, but quite often are quite rude (and hilarious). Unless you’ve been living under a rock recently, you will have seen that people describing themselves as ‘woke’ are starting to take offense to some of the naughtier bingo calls and are trying to replace them!
We’re not happy about these changes, but it is what it is. Here are some examples of the bingo calls we are losing:
Original Bingo Call
|
New Bingo Call + Reason
|
Number 88, two fat ladies
|
‘Fat’ has been replaced with ‘body positive’ in the woke bingo world due to concerns with fat shaming
|
Number 3, cup of tea
|
‘Cup of tea’ has been replaced with ‘gluten free’ in the woke bingo version. What’s wrong with a cup of tea!? it doesn’t even contain gluten!
|
Number 69, either way up
|
The bingo call has been changed completely to ‘just in time’ – come on, where’s your sense of humour?

Times are Changing
Overall, change is a natural part of life and there is nothing that we can do to stop it – thankfully though the majority of the changes we have seen to bingo over the years have been for the best! Now if only those darn millennials would leave our favourite bingo calls alone!
