MBST UK & Charlton Athletic Expand Collaboration To Build Evidence In Elite Athlete Recovery

MBST UK and Charlton Athletic today announce a new formalised recovery and clinical research partnership, building on a successful integration of MBST within the club’s sports medicine programme since the club’s 2024/25 Championship promotion season.  The collaboration will see MBST, an innovative and non-invasive medical technology, continue to be used as part of players’ wider treatment and recovery plans through the current and 2026/27 season.

MBST uses a form of magnetic resonance technology, similar in principle to MRI but at much lower levels of resonance. It focuses on supporting the body’s natural repair processes, designed to target tissue at a cellular level using gentle magnetic resonance technology, which can help clinicians target the cause of discomfort, not just the symptoms.

MBST UK will be working closely with the club’s medical team as part of a clinical research programme. The data will play a pivotal role in MBST’s research and development to demonstrate the role that MBST plays in supporting recovery of musculoskeletal injuries in elite athletes and the correlation in return-to-play timelines.

Liz Clare, Managing Director of MBST Health UK, said of the new partnership, “Formalising our partnership with Charlton Athletic is a big moment for MBST, and a testament to our technology and the impact we know it can have. Steeped in footballing history, the Club’s commitment to player welfare and innovative sports science makes it an ideal partner for our research. Together, we are not just supporting injury recovery, we’re gaining the insights needed to truly push the boundaries of sports medicine.”

Adam Coe – Head of Medical, Charlton Athletic adds, “Player availability is the cornerstone of success in professional football. Partnering with MBST Health UK allows us to provide our squad with cutting-edge recovery options while contributing to research that benefits the wider sporting community. Our medical team has been working with the MBST device, and we are really pleased to formalise the partnership, which will enable the team to further benefit from this exciting medical technology.”
