M&S Sign Up Wales Football Icon Andy King For Campaign

Former Wales midfielder and Premier League winner Andy King and M&S Food surprise Georgetown boys and girls club to tell them they have won a training masterclass with the Cymru national team

The youth grassroots side has won the opportunity to train with the Cymru National Team. Bristol City player and former Cymru midfielder Andy King delivered the news at their clubhouse in Merthyr Tydfil.

The competition ran during the summer where M&S shoppers nominated their local school or grassroots football club to win the once in a lifetime prize.

Ray Davies, Secretary at Georgetown Boys and Girls Club, said: “We are thrilled that we have won this amazing competition. The group of players that will be able to train with the Cymru team are from ages 7-12 and they are so excited! They’ve all been watching them over the past two weeks on TV and can’t believe that they will be seeing some of them in the flesh!”

Andy King, the first and only player to win the top three divisions with the same team in the Premier League era, added: “It was a pleasure to surprise the players at the club – they were so excited to find out they had won. I really hope they enjoy the session – who knows maybe one of them will be a Cymru star in future!”

Marketing Director M&S Food, Hospitality and Masterbrand, Sharry Cramond, added: “We are absolutely delighted to give this amazing prize as part of our partnership with the Cymru football teams.

“Through our partnership with the FAW we want to shine a light on the diet and eating habits of much-loved footballing heroes and icons, bringing to life positive healthy eating messages for kids through Eat Well.”

Georgetown Boys and Girls Club will meet and train with their heroes in Spring 2023 and more information, images and interview opportunities will be available then.
