From football to rugby and Olympic sport, an increasing reliance on data, science and technology is reshaping the world of sport.

Elite sports organisations, particularly football, are investing heavily in employing sports analysts who play a huge role in player recruitment, nutrition and rehabilitation from injury.

They use video and data to give real-time feedback to coaches and the information they glean and insights gained are aimed at providing teams with a truly competitive edge.

Directors within sporting organisations however cannot be expected to sanction spending on new data analytics and associated technologies without a credible assessment of what the return on such investments might be.
