The Football Association [The FA] has announced James Kendall will be appointed as its new Director of Football Development.

Kendall will join The FA from Portas Consulting Ltd, where during his time there, he led multiple projects alongside The FA, including a review of grassroots football and designing a new operating model for County Football Associations. He also led the development of a social return on investment (SROI) model for UEFA to support National Associations in demonstrating the value of grassroots football.

Speaking of his appointment, James Kendall said: “Sport has always played a big part in both my professional and personal life. I have a lifelong passion for football and know very well the positive impact it can have on society so I am thrilled to be joining The FA, particularly at such an exciting time for English football.

“It will be a privilege to take on the leadership of one of The FA’s key priorities as it continues to develop the game at all levels and increase participation by making it accessible For All.”

Mark Bullingham, The FA’s Chief Commercial and Football Development Officer, said: “We know James well from his previous work with The FA and it gives me great pleasure that we have found the best candidate for this role. We’ve made huge strides in developing English football in recent years and I’m certain that with James coming on board we will continue to make strong progress for years to come.”
